I feel like Star Wars is one of those movie sagas you just have to watch. I always see nods to the franchise in pop culture, there’s so much Star Wars merch and other TV shows related to Star Wars, and there’s a whole Star Wars park at Universal Studios in Florida. It doesn’t matter if you’ve seen Star Wars or not, you’ve definitely heard of Darth Vader or have a vague idea of what a lightsaber looks like. To me, it always felt inescapable, so I decided to put the age old stereotype of "Star Wars nerds” behind me and watch the movies. I’ve really been enjoying them so far, especially the prequels. These are all my personal favorite scenes from the prequels because they’re super funny and enjoyable!

  1. Qui-Gon’s Death

Let me tell you this scene was HILARIOUS. My jaw dropped to the floor because I was laughing so hard, of course. When he was on the floor after Darth Maul killed him with a lightsaber I thought that was so silly because he had to keep fighting. What was this silly goose doing lying on the floor? Qui-Gon trained Obi-Wan to be the Jedi he is and was very important to  the Jedi Order so I just thought it was funny that he “died.” Maybe he’ll come back in another movie.

  1. Shmi Skywalker’s Death

Isn’t it so funny how everyone “dies” in this movie? I mean, Anakin hadn’t seen his mother in years, and when he finally gets to see her, she falls asleep! Oh, Shmi. Your son just came back, you can’t just say that you’re proud of him and barely be able to say “I love you” and then drop dead. I mean, not dead. She’s going to resurrect for sure, don’t even worry about it guys.

  1. Order 66

This genuinely had me on the floor crying tears. Of joy, of course. I was crying from all the laughter. Nothing else. The betrayal of the Jedi by their own clone troopers really tickles my funny bone. Order 66 represented the fall of the Jedi Order and the rise of the Empire, and it’s heartbreaking to see the vulnerability of the once powerful Jedi who are completely defenseless at this moment. And to top it all off, Padme crying during Order 66 is so sad to watch because she knows that Anakin has transformed into a completely different person and she’s watching the destruction of everything she knew happen in real time. Her crying really reminded me of myself when I was watching that because as you may remember, I was crying tears. Of joy.

  1. Anakin Kills Padme

I feel like “kills” is a bit of a strong word because Anakin really just casts a sleeping spell on Padme or something. Putting her to sleep was actually a really nice thing for him to do because Padme was pregnant at the time and she must have been really tired. Actually, can I be honest? This wasn’t funny at all. Anakin was so determined to save Padme from dying that he turned to the Dark Side, but in the process, he ended up losing himself and everyone he loved. It’s really depressing, and the whole franchise really just makes you wonder what could’ve been if Anakin never became Darth Vader.

So now that the jig is up, I’m relieved to say that I’m probably never going to write an article about Star Wars ever again because most of it is quite tragic. I think I may have forgotten to put jokes in this one.
